Bulgaria-Greece gas link capacity booked at 94% in Dec

The Bulgaria-Greece natural gas interconnector reached a booking rate of 94% on its capacity in December last year, after being commissioned on October 1, developer and independent transmission operator ICGB said on Wednesday.

The natural gas carried via the pipeline in its first three months of operation reached 4.875 million megawatt hours (MWh), ICGB said in a press release.

The interconnector has 11 registered users at present. In November, Axpo Bulgaria, a division of Swiss energy group Axpo, became the latest company with a licence to book capacity on the IGB.

The 182-kilometre, 253 million euro ($271.6 million) pipeline, has a total capacity of 3 billion cubic metres (bcm) per year, with 1.57 bcm already booked under long-term contracts of up to 25 years. It has been providing about one-third of the natural gas consumed in Bulgaria during the current heating season.
