Avesta.tj – A press conference was held in Dushanbe in connection with the start of negotiations between the European Union and Tajikistan on an expanded Partnership and Cooperation Agreement.
The press conference was held by Luc Devin, Deputy Managing Director of the European Union’s Foreign Service Department for Cooperation with Russia, the Eastern Partnership, Central Asia and the OSCE.
Mr. Devin noted that Tajikistan and the European Union have begun the process of negotiating a new Enhanced Partnership and Cooperation Agreement between the parties, since the current Agreement was signed in 2005.
During the conference, Luc Devin paid special attention to the issues of accelerating the process of accession of the Republic of Tajikistan to the Generalized System of Trade Preferences of the European Union (GSP+), attracting more funds to the national economy, and implementing the EU Indicative Program in the Republic of Tajikistan for 2021-2027.
At the same time, it was noted that priority should be given to the areas of green and digital economy, artificial intelligence and e-commerce.
Luc Devin noted that the Enhanced Partnership and Cooperation Agreement, along with the expansion of relations between the parties in the field of trade and commerce, will also contribute to the development of cooperation in the fields of politics and security and other areas of mutual interest.
Particular attention was paid to the issues of ensuring human rights.
At the end of the meeting, Mr. Devin answered journalists’ questions and expressed confidence in the further expansion of mutually beneficial cooperation between Tajikistan and the European Union.
