The 74th edition of Strandja, the oldest international boxing tournament in Europe, will be held here next week, bringing together some 470 athletes from 42 nations and regions, an official said on Wednesday.
“The international boxing tournament Strandja this year has no analog,” Krasimir Ininski, president of the Bulgarian Boxing Federation, said at a press conference.
“The interest is huge, and I am glad that we continue to make history with each subsequent edition of the tournament,” Ininski said.
Svetoslav Sapoundjiev, executive director of the Bulgarian Boxing Federation said that European, Olympic and world champions would participate in almost every category, calling it “the best in the world.”
“There are two categories with 43 participants in each,” he said.
The bouts in the Sofia Hall will begin on Feb. 20 and the finals are scheduled for Feb. 26.
