In the last match of the Division IA Ice Hockey World Championship in Nottingham, the Lithuanian team needed a regular time win to stay at this level, not to go down a “floor” lower. A minute before the end of the match, the score was still equal, because of which the Lithuanian hockey players were forced to replace the goalkeeper with an outfield player. Such a risk was not justified – the opponent scored a goal and won 2:1.
The first period turned out to be tense, both teams were close to scoring more than once. If the Lithuanians were saved by Mantas Armalis, then after hitting Ugnius Chizhas, the puck shook the goal post.
The second period began very unsuccessfully for the Lithuanians. During the first attack, the player of the Korean national team Sanhun Shin, being in a difficult situation, managed to throw so that the puck from the goalkeeper of the Lithuanian national team hit the Lithuanian goal.
It was possible to level the score of the Lithuanian team in the second period. Ugnius Cizhas, who changed the flight of the puck after a long-range shot from a teammate, left no hope for the opposing goalkeeper (33:47, pass: Jaunius Jasiniavičius and Emilijus Krakauskas).
In the third period, the Lithuanians had to play in the minority twice in a row, but the Koreans failed to distinguish themselves during these periods. The ensuing attempt by the Lithuanians to use the numerical advantage also failed.
As the end of the match approached, the Lithuanian national team attacked the opponent more and more often, but the situation was changed by the removal in the Lithuanian national team. After that, the Lithuanians were forced to play in the minority until the end of the match. Defending themselves from the attack, members of the Lithuanian national team tried to save themselves by replacing the goalkeeper with an outfield player, but the Koreans, who took over the puck, distinguished themselves and won the game. The puck was thrown by Sihwan Kim.
